The Four Rhythms of Discipleship
Grow spiritually and engage with the church body
At Haven Bible Church, we live out our faith through four rhythms that shape every believer’s walk with Christ: worship in gatherings, grow in groups, learn in studies, and serve on teams. Each rhythm helps us know God more deeply, love one another more faithfully, and live out the gospel more fully—for the glory of God and the good of His church.

Worship in Gatherings
Our Gatherings are central to who we are as a church. Each Sunday, we come together to worship through the reading and preaching of Scripture, the singing of songs that exalt Christ, the prayers of God’s people, and the celebration of the sacraments. These moments form us as disciples—teaching our hearts to love what God loves and to treasure His presence above all else.
We believe worship is not about performance or crowd appeal, but about spiritual growth and genuine devotion. As we gather, our aim is to cultivate reverence, gratitude, and joy in the Lord, remembering that worship isn’t just something we attend—it’s a life we live in response to God’s grace.
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” - John 4:24

Serve on Teams
Serving is one of the most joyful ways we respond to God’s grace. Out of hearts filled with love and gratitude for all He has done, we serve others in His name. Whether it’s greeting guests on Sunday, caring for kids, or helping behind the scenes, there’s a place for you to make a difference.
If you’d like to discover how you can connect and serve at Haven, we invite you to enroll in our Next Step Class. Serving not only blesses others—it also deepens your connection with God’s people and grows you in Christlike love.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” - 1 Corinthians 15:58
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” - 1 Peter 4:10-11

You can join a team by attending the Next Step Class, where you’ll learn more about Haven and how God is at work here. For some, the best next step may be to take a season to rest and be refreshed in the Lord (Matthew 11:28–30). For others, it may be time to jump in and serve! Wherever you are, we want you to understand the why behind your serving and how your role helps move Haven forward in our mission. When you’re ready to live out 1 Peter 4:10, follow this link and sign up for the Next Step Class—we can’t wait to walk with you as you take this next step of faith.

In a recent sermon, Pastor Mark reminded us, “Who you are and how you serve are not self-made achievements, but grace-appointed assignments.” Every Christian has been gifted by the Spirit of God to serve like the Son of God—lovingly, sacrificially, and for the glory of God the Father. Discovering where and how you can serve is one of the most joy-filled parts of the Christian life. Attend the Next Step Class to be inspired—and then come join us on mission.
Grow in Groups
Small groups gather in homes throughout Spokane at different times during the week, bringing together up to 12 people for weekly two-hour gatherings. Led by a trained leader, you'll pursue growth in Jesus by discussing Sunday's sermon, praying together, and encouraging one another toward Christlikeness through God's Word.
“to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” - Ephesians 4:12-13

Small groups are a priority at Haven. Some of the most impactful ministry takes place in our small groups as group members study more deeply the sermon from Sunday and make an effort to apply what they have been taught to their daily lives (James 1:22) God’s Word while supporting and sharing life with one another. We believe that meeting together in a group on a regular basis is one of the best things you can do for your spiritual health.

As our primary source of equipping at Haven we are intentional about how we form small groups. After the Next Step Class you will speak with our Pastor of Small Groups to get you connected with an On Ramp Group. All small groups are done differently, our On Ramp groups are a 6 week intro to our small groups to help understand the way that Haven does small group. These groups will get you up to speed so when you are placed into a small group you know what to expect and how to flourish in praying together and growing and equipping one another in Christlikeness.

Weekly gatherings keep your group moving forward with the kind of relational momentum that makes real community possible. We all need a place where we’re known, loved, and cared for—and that kind of depth doesn’t happen by accident. It grows through consistent, intentional time together around God’s Word. Meeting weekly gives your group a steady rhythm to build those meaningful relationships.

Each group runs from September through May. Our small groups follow the public school year and don’t meet over the summer, mid-June through August. During the summer months we will have events and read a book as a church. Summer is more relaxed but we still want to gather and grow in groups.

Small groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the local area.

Small groups are for adults only. Of course, exceptions are made for newborns up to six months. We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or swap childcare with another family whose group meets on a different night.

Few things in life are free. And your involvement in a group is no exception! The cost of a group is the cost of commitment. Small group is a choice that we hope you make for your own growth in Christlikeness.
Learn in Studies
Whether young (18 years or older) or old, stay-at-home mom or corporate executive, single or married, man or woman — studies are for you. Studies are Haven’s opportunity to learn and grow together in community. Each season, we open God’s Word —sometimes through a book of the Bible, other times through a biblically grounded book — to help us know our God more deeply and to see ourselves more clearly in light of who He is and what He says.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” - James 1:22-25
-

The core call of every Christian is to die to self and live for Christ. We learn to do this as we follow His example and discover the deep joy that comes through obedience. In the Great Commission, Jesus commands us to “go and make disciples,” and one of the ways we do that is by teaching others to obey everything He has commanded. To obey Him, we must first know what He has said—and that’s why we study the Bible together. Each study is an opportunity to grow in our understanding of God’s Word, our love for Christ, and our ability to live out His truth in everyday life.
-

Every good thing requires commitment—and that’s true of our studies as well. We invite you to come ready to engage: to do the work, to think deeply, and to share honestly. In our discussions, we don’t just share our answers—we also share our questions, doubts, and discoveries. Together, we’re growing not only in our knowledge of God’s Word but also in being truly known and cared for in community.
-

Consistency is key to real growth. When we learn together each week, we’re not only growing in our understanding of God’s Word—we’re also growing in our understanding of one another. A steady rhythm of gathering helps truth take root in our hearts and relationships deepen in meaningful ways.
